This was an actual treasure hunt for my kid's birthday party, built with a-frame and vanilla js in about a week's spare time.
For the treasure hunt, I placed qr codes around the neighbourhood, handed out a couple of smartphones with the web app open and set the kids loose. The web app worked astonishingly well for the short development timeframe, but I realized I had much to learn about which kind of clues children will pick up on (for example, 9 year olds will not read street signs, even if they're standing directly in front of them).
To carry over the game feeling into the portfolio version, I replaced the the real life neighbourhood with an animated "space map".
